Reading your post really hit me hard because my dad is exactly like yours ... always active on social media, sending good morning and good night messages to everyone, playing old songs loudly on his phone, keeping in touch with everyone constantly. I always found it funny, but looking back, it’s such a pure and wholesome way of showing love.

Thank you for sharing this .. it made me realize I haven’t responded to many of his messages for months. I do call him every now and then, but after reading your post, I feel like I need to start replying to his messages properly, so it’s not just his words filling up our chats..

I lost my father after battling cancer for 4 yrs. We were told that he doesn't have much time and we were prepared for it. I never wanted that day to come. But it came after all. Though we were prepared, but still felt devastated. Can't even imagine what you must have gone through. 

It gets easier with time. But every tough decision I have to make now,  I just think "Agar papa hote toh kitna asaan hota sab".

I can feel your pain.

Lost my aai (mom) 20 years back. Honestly can't recall her voice even when I desperately try to. Today, it feels like I'm not sure what she sounded like. I was only 14 years old back then. She passed away with a terminal heart condition after years of suffering with multiple complications.

But when she passed away, we sadly felt liberating for her as it was a long lost battle. We started building our lives with that grief in our heart. My Baba took charge as a mother as well for us siblings.

Me and my sisters completed education, the sisters eventually got married, I got a job in a metro city and our father chose to live alone at home, working even after retirement just to be mentally engaged. He was fit, loved his work and our hometown but he was obviously lonely without us around. I used to visit back home whenever possible, but I could sense his awkward handshake every time he used to drop me for the return train. I wish I could hug him one last time.

Then recently, around COVID in 2020, I lost my father as well. It was a sudden cardiac arrest when he was all alone at home. The Covid situation was worse around that time, so emergency situations like those were not addressed properly. Neighbours took him to hospital in an unconscious state but it was too late already.

I was far away from him for work, stuck in the lockdown when this happened. I somehow managed to come home as soon as possible. But we had lost him already when he fell unconscious at home. And finally I lost the feeling called Home even when I was home.

Not a single day passes by without thinking about him. Thinking what I could have done differently. Maybe I could have saved him somehow if I was around him. At least I could hug him one last time!

All I can tell you is the grief will remain with you until you pass. Cry if you feel like, don't hold back. Because the grief you feel is the love you couldn't express when he was around. Life will eventually grow bigger around the grief. You'll be fine. Take care !

I’m so sorry for your loss OP. I was only 12 when i lost my father and it was not fair cos i didn’t get many years with him. You did, you treasured him, took care of him and I’m pretty sure he’s in peace right now. 

Harsh truth of life is that the grief never ends. People always say you will get over it — you don’t. You’d just learn to live with it.

It may be difficult to come to terms with the passing of a dearly loved one, but it's important to remember that death is merely a natural part of the cycle of life. Although their physical presence may no longer be with us, their memory and the impact they had on our lives will continue to live on. 

We can take comfort in knowing that  death is just the transition point between a one state of subjectified consciousness to another - like sleep, dream sleep, unconscious deep sleep and waking up the next day. 

In the end, we can only honor their memory by cherishing the time we had with them and carrying on their legacy.

I am sorry for your loss OP and sorry for others who lost their parents. I've read comments and I got tears in my eyes. I am someone who has both parents but every day I live with this thought how will that day be when I will be alone. I am divorced and I give all my love everyday to my parents making sure they have their best times but even thinking about it makes me cry so may be I understand a little bit of how you must be feeling ten times of what I am feeling everyday. reading this breaks my heart. you are a good son. you are a lucky son to have spent time with your father. many people move to other cities and countries. i count myself lucky too to be able to live with parents. i and my wife beg my in-laws to move the same city and apartment in their old age now, so that she gets the same time i have with my parents. in our 30s and 40s we have to spend the little time we have with them well. everything else can wait for me.

I am very sorry for your loss OP, I lost my father when I was 10 - the thought of losing my mother is daunting. 

I relate too much to shifting gears, you have to manage - organise - inform. It’s hard to grieve when you have funeral to plan which honour their memory. 

I think about it a lot, how will I manage things - doing it as a young adult for my grandmother took its toll.

I am so sorry for your loss OP. May Almighty provide you the strength to bear this loss.

Being someone who lost both his parents to chronic illnesses over a span of 7 years at the age of 35, I can definitely tell you it is much worse seeing your parent suffer everyday and have that feeling of loosing them inside your heart. Every morning I felt grateful that we did make it to another day. 

From my experience, I can definitely tell you three things:

1. You will always always miss your parents till you are here, specifically on special occasions. And being a man myself I know we can't cry out in the open, so go to the washroom and turn the tap on.

2. It will get better with time or shall I say you will learn to live with it. There are stages of grief. You will always keep thinking what you could have done to avoid it. It will mess with your head, so be spiritual and believe "what has to happen, will happen at its destined time". This will give you some respite.

3. You have to move on in life, like you said, to honour the life given to you by your parents. Always remember the hardships they faced in raising you up, whenever you feel low or feel there is nothing left now. It will give you the courage to take life heads on. And always remember, you can honour their sacrifices only by building your life up and being happy always. Because that's what they would always have wanted for you. 

In short, this too shall pass! Stay strong bud❤️‍🩹!

My mom passed away suddenly during covid. I know how it feels like. It would take some years to move on but you will feel his presence in every good thing that happens to you and you will miss him during all difficulties.

The only comfort that I can give you is that he passed away peacefully. I also lost my mother earlier this year and with her it was really suffering with the worse part being I couldn't have done any thing about it. Yes, I still cry at times when I am alone but that helps me to let out all the emotions that I otherwise cannot share. Only solace lies in the fact they are in a better place now.

I also lost my mom just 2 months ago during Janmashtami, in an accident.

My dad never had any health issues his whole life all thanks to my mom's healthy food habits and love for him, but now he got permanent high BP issue.

Some things do seem normal on the surface, but deep down it affects and it affects a lot, beyond our knowledge.

Stay strong and this too shall pass, trust me.
I'm also not celebrating Diwali this year since our Lakshmi (my mom) is not there. So I feel your emotions too.

My deepest condolences to you. Please take care of yourself, if you ever need anybody to talk to, please do contact your father's friends from childhood or office. They'll definitely help you share his funny or some nice memories which will help you feel closer to him.

I lost my father to cancer few years back and it took a lot of time for me to get over the pain and overcome that loss. The void is always there but life keeps going. It has been 7 years and counting and i still get flashbacks of the day he died. It all feels like a nightmare. My father was always full of life and wanted to do lot of things but he waited for us kids of settle down and when we did, he left us. I wanted to get everything for him that he missed out in life just to raise us right but now he is not with us anymore. I have realised this being a grown up what our parents go through and sacrifice for us. It seems to unfair that life is like this.

On the silver lining, it has transitioned me from a spoiled brat to a caring son who is looking after his mother and sister and doing everything in my capacity to treat them right like my father would so they never feel they missed out anything in life. I cannot fill that void but I can do my best so that they don't feel that void in the first place

Sorry for your loss sometimes I think ki papa se kaise baat kru smjh nhi aata ( I dont know how to talk to him and explain whats going on in my life ) i have so much to tell him like.how  i have a girlfriend now and how im not afraid of bullies anymore and how I can handle things on my own but deep down i know that I need him i have so many things to learn from him.... my father is a wonderful and a really supportive man , he's a really good person I've always wanted to be like him  respected by people and kind and being surrounded by genuine good people  i still dont know how to talk to him I'm really scared of the day when I dont have him anymore makes me cry every time I thi k about it i want to earn a lot of money and go to  beautiful places, he has sacrificed a lot for us i hope I dont regret anything
